Once it hits 25°C, Hawaiian is all we want

You know the feeling. Temperatures rise, the sun does its thing, and suddenly heavy food holds no appeal. You want something fresh that matches how you feel.

Turns out you’re not alone. Research commissioned by Hawaiian in May 2026 shows that 58.1% of Dutch consumers automatically reach for lighter, fresher options — like poké bowls or salads — once the heat kicks in.

Hawaiian

Your way, every time

It’s not just about eating lighter. More than half (55.2%) choose a bowl specifically because they can build it exactly the way they want. Extra protein after a workout, a tropical twist for the fun of it, mango or pineapple as a must-have summer flavour — for 41%, it’s non-negotiable. There’s no one-size-fits-all summer meal anymore.

At home, in the garden, cold drink in hand

Nearly two thirds (63.3%) prefer enjoying their summer meal in their own garden or on their balcony. No terrace needed, no crowds. Just you, your bowl and the sun.

Healthy doesn’t have to mean perfect

Only 15.2% eat completely “clean” all summer. The rest add crunchy toppings or finish with an ice cream. Nearly half (49.2%) are unwilling to cut back on fresh meals, even as food prices rise.

New this season: the Summer Salad Mix

This season, Hawaiian introduces the Summer Salad Mix — a refreshing combination of curly frisée, arugula and yellow carrot, as a light alternative alongside the classic rice bases. Come in and build your own summer bowl.
